Sponsor Letter April/May , 2009 Dear Sir/Madam: My son, Dylan Egan Kolar, is a spirited 8 yr old living in Sayville, NY. He was diagnosed with Shwachman Diamond Syndrome at the age of one. Shwachman Diamond Syndrome is a rare bone marrow failure syndrome and is the 2nd most common cause of pancreatic insufficiency, second only to Cystic Fibrosis. He is currently doing very well under the guidance and care of the wonderful doctors and staff at Schneider Children’s Hospital. But, more research is needed to help Dylan and all the other children who are struggling with this very rare syndrome. Shwachman Diamond Project, Ltd. is a non-profit charitable organization founded in 2005, to fund research into Shwachman Diamond Syndrome as well as other Inherited Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes and Pancreatic Insufficiency Conditions. Another part of its mission is to educate others on the benefits of Cord Blood collection. Saturday , June 20, 2009, will mark the 6th Annual 5k Shwachman Diamond “ Dash for a Cure”. Once again, it will be held at Sunrise Drive Elementary School in Sayville, NY. The 5k Run/Walk and 1k Fun Run continues to grow each year.
