Thank You!

Spring 2005
We'd like to thank the sponsors who offered their help as well as their kind words of concern for Dylan. What better way to let them know how much we appreciate their generosity than to thank them on our website and let the public know how generous they really are.

Thank you speech from the

2nd Annual 5K Shwachman Diamond Dash

June 18, 2005

Sunrise Drive Elementary School

Let me start by saying thank you to The Sayville Fire Department and all of the volunteers, who without them this race would not have happened. I’d also like to thank our Sponsors and raffle donators. Your support allowed us to make this “Dash for a Cure” extremely special.

Thank you all for coming. Your presence here means so much more than you can imagine. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Jennifer Egan Kolar. My 4 ½ yr old son, Dylan, was diagnosed with Shwachman Diamond Syndrome at 11 months of age.

Shwachman Diamond Syndrome is an Inherited Bone Marrow Failure Syndrome. There are many children with Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes ranging from Acute Leukemia & Cancers to genetic blood disorders.

I know that choosing a charity or special cause is a very personal choice & I thank you all for letting me talk about this one.

Last year my family & I hosted the 1st 5K Shwachman Diamond Dash. It took about a year to plan. And it was successful. Very successful. We had well over 500 people attend and raised $35,000. An amazing accomplishment made only because of this communities’ generosity &love. And by community, I mean:

This wonderful community of Sayville.

This wonderful community of runners/walkers.

This wonderful community of friends, family & volunteers.

The monies raised helped to extend a very important Bone Marrow Research Project a FULL YEAR. And so…we decided to do it again. The positive feedback from all of you last year gave us the energy & desire to do it again.

Please know, how lucky we feel and how grateful we are to all of those who gave so much of themselves to make today another success. We hope once again, that you will support us for Next Year’s Race. Thank you all for coming.

So whether you walked, ran, volunteered, donated, or were here for support we Thank You from the bottoms of our heart.
